Certified Legal Translators in Abu Dhabi

If you’re submitting non-Arabic documents for any official process in Abu Dhabi, or if you’re using UAE-issued documents internationally, you’ll need a legal translation completed by a Ministry of Justice–licensed translator.

Legal Translation Requirements in Abu Dhabi

An MOJ-licensed translator must carry out a certified legal translation in Abu Dhabi, including their official stamp and signature, a Ministry of Justice certification number, and, when required for international use, an attestation by the relevant authorities.

The legal translation process is governed by Cabinet Resolution No. 7 of 2014, which mandates that all translators must be officially licensed and registered in Abu Dhabi to provide legal translation services.

At LegalTranslator, we work with carefully vetted MOJ-approved translators to ensure you meet all compliance requirements and the authorities accept your documents.

Using Foreign Documents in Abu Dhabi

If your documents were issued outside the UAE and you intend to use them in Abu Dhabi for visa applications, court proceedings, business registration, or other official purposes, they must undergo a specific attestation and translation process:

  • Notarization in Country of Origin: Your document must first be notarized by a licensed Notary Public in the issuing country to verify its authenticity.
  • Home Country Legalization: Since the UAE is not a member of the Hague Apostille Convention, documents require full consular legalization by the relevant government authority in the country of origin (typically the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or its equivalent).
  • UAE Embassy/Consulate Attestation: Once legalized, the document must be submitted to the UAE embassy or consulate in the issuing country for attestation and verification.
  • MOFAIC Attestation in Abu Dhabi: Upon arrival in the UAE, the document must be presented to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MOFAIC) in Abu Dhabi for final attestation.
  • Legal Translation into Arabic: After MOFAIC attestation, the document must be translated into Arabic by a Ministry of Justice–approved legal translator if it’s not already in Arabic.
  • Ministry of Justice Certification: The translator’s credentials, stamp, and signature are verified through the MOJ certification process, making the translation legally valid for all Abu Dhabi authorities.

Using Abu Dhabi-Issued Documents Internationally

If you need to use documents issued in Abu Dhabi or elsewhere in the UAE for official purposes abroad, they must go through a similar but reverse attestation process:

  • Notarization (if required): Some documents may require initial notarization by an Abu Dhabi Notary Public, depending on the document type and the destination country’s requirements.
  • The Abu Dhabi Country’s Attestation: The document must be attested by the relevant issuing authority in Abu Dhabi (e.g., Abu Dhabi Judicial Department for court documents, Abu Dhabi Municipality for property documents, etc.).
  • Ministry of Justice Attestation: Legal documents and specific official papers require attestation from the UAE Ministry of Justice in Abu Dhabi.
  • MOFAIC Attestation: All documents must be attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MOFAIC) at their Abu Dhabi offices for international recognition.
  • Destination Country Embassy Attestation: Finally, the document must be attested by the embassy or consulate of the destination country located in Abu Dhabi.
  • Translation (if required): If the receiving country requires documents in a language other than Arabic, a certified legal translation must be provided by an approved translator in the receiving country.
