Legal Translation Requirements in Ajman

For a document to be accepted by the authorities in Ajman:

• Non-Arabic documents must be translated into Arabic: All official processes in Ajman and the UAE require Arabic-language documentation. Foreign-language documents submitted without a certified Arabic translation will be rejected.
• The translation must be completed by a Ministry of Justice–licensed translator: Only translations completed by MOJ-certified translators are accepted by the Ajman authorities. Unofficial translations, even if accurate, will not be recognised.
• An official stamp and signature are required: Each page of the translation must bear the certified translator’s official Ministry of Justice stamp and personal signature. This certifies the accuracy of the translation and the translator’s qualifications.

The process is governed by UAE Cabinet Resolution No. 7 of 2014. This federal regulation establishes the standards for legal translation across all emirates, including Ajman, and defines the requirements for translator certification and document acceptance.

Using Foreign Documents in Ajman

Documents issued outside the UAE must complete the following steps before being used in Ajman:

• Notarisation in the country of origin: Your document must first be notarised by a Notary Public or equivalent authority in the country where it was issued. This verifies the document’s authenticity and the signatures it contains.

• Government department attestation: After notarisation, the document must be attested by the relevant government department in the issuing country (e.g., the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Home Office, or the Department of State, depending on the document type and country).

• UAE embassy or consular attestation: Once attested by the issuing country’s authorities, the document must be submitted to the UAE Embassy or Consulate in that country for attestation. This confirms the document’s validity for use in the UAE.

• MOFAIC attestation in the UAE: After UAE Embassy attestation, the document must be presented to the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MOFAIC) for final attestation. This can be completed at MOFAIC offices in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, or other emirates.

• Legal translation into Arabic: Once fully attested, the document must be translated into Arabic by a Ministry of Justice–certified translator. The translation must include the official MOJ stamp and signature.

• Submission to Ajman authorities: After translation and certification, your document is ready for submission to the relevant Ajman authority.

Using Ajman-Issued Documents Internationally

If your documents were issued in Ajman or elsewhere in the UAE and you intend to use them abroad, they will need to go through these processes to be accepted internationally:

• Notarisation by a UAE notary public: Documents issued by UAE authorities (such as birth certificates, marriage certificates, educational certificates, or commercial documents) must first be notarised by a UAE Notary Public if they are not already official government-issued documents with original signatures.

• Ministry of Justice attestation (if required): Depending on the document type, attestation by the UAE Ministry of Justice may be required before proceeding to MOFAIC.

• MOFAIC attestation in the UAE: The document must be attested by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MOFAIC). This federal-level attestation prepares the document for international use.

• Embassy attestation by the destination country: After MOFAIC attestation, the document must be submitted to the embassy or consulate of the destination country (e.g., the UK Embassy, the US Embassy, the Indian Embassy). This embassy attestation confirms the document’s validity in that country.
• Legal translation (if required): If the destination country requires documents in a language other than Arabic or English, a certified translation must be completed. Many countries require translations to be certified by sworn translators or apostilled, depending on local regulations.
