Slovenian Document Legalization Dubai – Complete UAE & Slovenia Process

Slovenia is a member of the Hague Apostille Convention, but the UAE is not. This means an Apostille is not accepted for UAE purposes. All documents must follow consular legalization.

Here’s what the process entails;

Slovenian documents for use in the UAE

  • Notarization in Slovenia: Begin by having your document notarized by a licensed Notary Public in Slovenia. This verifies the authenticity of the signatures or seals on the document.
  • Authentication by the Slovenian Ministry of Justice or Competent Authority: Submit the notarized document to the Slovenian Ministry of Justice (or the competent issuing authority) for authentication. This confirms that the notary’s signature and seal are valid.
  • Legalization by the Slovenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA): Take the authenticated document to the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovenia. The MFA will further legalize the document, verifying all previous seals and signatures.
  • Certified Arabic Translation in the UAE (if required): If your documents are not in Arabic, you’ll require a certified Arabic translation completed by a UAE Ministry of Justice–licensed legal translator. This ensures the translation is accurate and legally valid.
  • Legalization by the UAE Embassy in Ljubljana: Once MFA legalization is complete, submit the document to the UAE Embassy in Ljubljana. The Embassy will review and stamp the document, confirming it meets UAE requirements.
  • Final Attestation by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA): After the document arrives in the UAE, take it to the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) for final attestation. This final step ensures your document is legally recognized in the UAE.

UAE documents for use in Slovenia

  • Notarization in the UAE (If Required): If your document is private (e.g. a power of attorney, affidavit, or company resolution), get it notarized by a UAE Notary Public. Official documents issued by UAE authorities (e.g. birth, marriage, or degree certificates) may already bear official seals and may not need notarization.
  • Attestation by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA): Submit your document to the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs for attestation. This verifies the authenticity of the document and the issuing authority.
  • Certified Slovenian Translation: If the document is not in Slovenian, have it translated by a certified translator. This ensures the Israeli authorities can read and understand the document.
  • Legalization by the Slovenian Embassy in Abu Dhabi: After the MOFA attestation, submit your document to the Embassy of Slovenia in Abu Dhabi. The Embassy will review and stamp the document, confirming it for use in Slovenia.
  • Submission to the Receiving Authority: Submit the fully legalized document (and translation, if applicable) to the relevant authority in Slovenia. This completes the legalization process.

About the Slovenian Language

Slovenian (Slovenski jezik or slovenščina) is a South Slavic language spoken by over 2.5 million people, primarily in Slovenia, where it serves as the official language, and among Slovenian communities across Europe, North America, and Australia.

Slovenian uses the Latin alphabet with special characters such as č, š, and ž, which represent sounds not found in English. It is known for its complex grammar system, which includes dual number, and an extensive case system, both of which can significantly affect meaning in official and legal contexts.

For example, the term “osebna izkaznica” means “personal ID card,” and “rojstni list” means “birth certificate.” These and other administrative terms must be accurately adapted to UAE equivalents to ensure legal validity and clarity in translated documents.

Because of these linguistic features, common translation challenges include:

  • Incorrect handling of grammatical cases, altering the intended meaning of names, dates, or legal terms.

  • Literal translation of legal or administrative terminology, leading to non-compliance with UAE documentation standards.

  • Confusion between Slovenian and closely related Slavic languages (e.g., Croatian, Serbian) in multilingual records.

  • Errors in transliteration of diacritics (č, š, ž), causing mismatched names in passports, visas, or Emirates IDs.

  • Submitting uncertified translations, which may be rejected by UAE embassies, ministries, or courts.

Working with an experienced, certified Slovenian translation agency in Dubai ensures your documents are accurately translated and legally compliant.
