Danish Document Legalization Dubai – Complete UAE & Denmark Process

Denmark is a member of the Hague Apostille Convention, while the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is not. This means an Apostille from Denmark is not enough for your documents to be valid in the UAE. To use Danish documents in the UAE, they must go through full consular legalization, not just Apostille.

Here’s what the process entails;

Danish documents for use in the UAE

  • Notarization in Denmark: Have your document notarized by a Notary Public in Denmark. This verifies the authenticity of the signature and seal on the document.
  • Legalization by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Submit the notarized document to the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Udenrigsministeriet) for authentication.
  • Attestation by the UAE Embassy in Denmark: Take or send your authenticated document to the UAE Embassy in Copenhagen. The Embassy will review and stamp the document, confirming it has been properly legalized by Danish authorities.
  • Certified Arabic Translation in the UAE (if required): Documents to be used for official purposes in the UAE must be translated into Arabic by a UAE MOJ-Approved translator. This ensures the translation is accurate and legally valid.
  • Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) Attestation in the UAE: Once the document arrives in the UAE, it must be attested by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA). This is the final step that makes the document valid for official use across the UAE.

UAE documents for use in Denmark

  • Notarization: If the document is private (like a power of attorney or company document), get it notarized by a Notary Public in the UAE. But if it is an official document issued by UAE documents, you can skip this step.
  • UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) Attestation: Submit your document to the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) for attestation. MOFA verifies that the issuing authority is legitimate and the document is authentic.
  • Legalization by the Danish Embassy in Abu Dhabi: After MOFA attestation, present your document to the Royal Danish Embassy in Abu Dhabi. The Embassy will verify and stamp the document, confirming its authenticity for use in Denmark.
  • Certified translation into Danish: Depending on the document type and purpose, you may need to translate the document into Danish or English by a certified translator.
  • Submit to the relevant authority: Submit it to the relevant Danish authority (municipality, educational institution, court, etc.) for acceptance.

About the Danish Language

Danish (Dansk) is a North Germanic language spoken primarily in Denmark, with additional speakers in Greenland, the Faroe Islands, and Danish communities worldwide. It is closely related to Norwegian and Swedish, sharing much of its grammar and vocabulary, though its distinctive pronunciation can make it challenging for learners and translators.

Danish also features several regional dialects, though Standard Danish (Rigsdansk) is used in formal and official contexts. Its writing system uses the Latin alphabet with three additional letters (æ, ø, å), which often require special attention during translation and transliteration to ensure names and terms are rendered correctly in English or Arabic.

Because of these linguistic nuances, translation mistakes can easily occur, such as:

  • Incorrect interpretation of compound words, leading to misrepresentation in legal or financial documents.
  • Literal translation of Danish administrative or legal terms (e.g. CPR-nummer for “Civil Personal Registration Number” or Folkeregisteradresse for “registered address”) without adapting them to UAE equivalents.
  • Mistranslation of names or special Danish letters (Æ, Ø, Å) when transliterating into English or Arabic, causing mismatches in passports or visas.
  • Errors in academic or professional terminology, especially in diplomas, transcripts, or qualification certificates.
  • Submitting uncertified translations, which may be rejected by UAE embassies, ministries, or courts.

Working with an experienced, certified Danish translation agency in Dubai ensures your documents are translated with precision, meet UAE legal requirements, and preserve the original meaning.
