Vietnamese Document Legalization Dubai – Complete UAE & Vietnam Process

For a document to be legally recognized when moving between Vietnam and the UAE, it must undergo a full consular legalization process. This is because neither Vietnam nor the UAE is a member of the Hague Apostille Convention, meaning apostilles are not valid for documents exchanged between the two nations. Here are the steps:

Vietnamese Documents to be Used in the UAE

  • Notarization in Vietnam: The document must first be notarized by a notary public in Vietnam, especially if it doesn’t already have a government signature, stamp, or seal.
  • Vietnam MOFA Attestation: The notarized document is then submitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of Vietnam for legalization. This is a vital step that confirms the document’s authenticity within the country of origin.
  • UAE Embassy Legalization: Next,  submit the document to the UAE Embassy in Vietnam for legalization. The embassy will affix its official stamp and sticker, thereby making the document recognized by UAE authorities as a legitimate foreign document.
  • Certified Arabic Translation: If the document isn’t in Arabic or English, you must translate it using an MOJ-approved translator in Dubai.
  • Final Attestation in the UAE: Once the document arrives in the UAE, it must be submitted to the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation (MOFAIC) for final attestation. This final step is what makes the document legally valid for any official use within the UAE.

UAE Documents to be Used in Vietnam

  • Document Notarization in the UAE: The document must first be notarized by a Public Notary in the UAE to certify its authenticity and the signature on it.
  • Attestation by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation (MOFAIC): The notarized document must then be submitted to MOFAIC for attestation. This step authenticates the notary’s seal and signature.
  • Legalization by the Vietnamese Embassy in the UAE: After the MOFAIC attestation, the document must be submitted to the Embassy of Vietnam in the UAE (located in Abu Dhabi) for final legalization. The embassy will add its official seal, which is necessary for the document to be recognized in Vietnam.
  • Certified Translation into Vietnamese: For the document to be used in Vietnam, it must be translated into Vietnamese by a certified translator. Contact us for a certified Vietnamese translation with a 100% guaranteed acceptance rate.
  • Final Attestation in Vietnam (if required): In some instances and for specific purposes, the translated document may require a final attestation by the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

About the Vietnamese Language

Vietnamese is the official language of Vietnam and is spoken by over 86 million people, including a substantial number of speakers in other countries, such as the United States. It belongs to the Vietic branch of the Austroasiatic language family, and unlike many languages in the region, it uses the Latin alphabet, known as Quốc ngữ.

While the standardized form of Vietnamese is based on the Hanoi dialect, the language varies significantly depending on the region. The main dialects are Northern, Central, and Southern, and they differ in terms of tone, pronunciation, and vocabulary.

These regional and contextual variations can create challenges in translation, including:

  • Literal translation of legal or civil terms (e.g., giấy khai sinh, hợp đồng lao động, sổ hộ khẩu) without adapting them to the correct jurisdiction.
  • Misuse of formal vs. informal registers, which can cause tone issues in official or business correspondence. For instance, selecting the wrong personal pronoun (e.g., using “tôi” instead of a more contextually appropriate term like “anh,” “chị,” or em”) can be perceived as overly direct or impolite.
  • Errors in pronoun usage and social context, which can lead to grammatical mistakes in official documents. Vietnamese grammar is highly dependent on the relationship between speakers, so errors in this area can be significant.
  • Overlooking regional terminology, such as differences between Northern and Southern Vietnamese, in legal or immigration records.
  • Formatting errors that make official documents non-compliant with embassy or ministry requirements.
  • Reliance on non-certified translators, resulting in rejected applications for immigration, study, or legal proceedings.

Working with a certified Vietnamese translation agency ensures that every document is accurate and fully compliant with international standards.
