Czech Document Legalization Dubai – Complete UAE & Czech Republic Process

The Czech Republic is a member of the Hague Apostille Convention, but the UAE is not. This means that an Apostille issued in the Czech Republic cannot be used directly in Dubai. All Czech documents must undergo full consular legalization before they are accepted by UAE authorities.

Below is the complete, step-by-step process:

Czech Documents for Use in the UAE

  • Notarization in the Czech Republic: Submit your documents to the Czech Public Notary for notarization. This step verifies the authenticity of the signature and the document issued.
  • Attestation by the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA): After notarization, the document must be attested by the MFA in Prague. Note: Educational qualifications, such as diplomas or transcripts, may require verification from the Ministry of Education, the issuing school, or a regional authority before MFA attestation.
  • Legalization by the UAE Embassy in Prague: Once MFA attestation is complete, you should submit the document to the UAE Embassy in Prague for legalization for legalization. This embassy stamp is mandatory for the document to be accepted in the UAE.
  • Certified Arabic Translation in the UAE: When the document arrives in Dubai or Abu Dhabi, it must be translated into Arabic for official use, whether for immigration, employment, visa processes, court submissions, or business registrations. Translation must be carried out by a UAE Ministry of Justice–approved legal translator.
  • UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation (MOFAIC): The final step is legalization by MOFAIC. This confirms all previous attestations and makes the Czech document fully valid within the UAE.

UAE Documents for Use in the Czech Republic

  • Notarization in the UAE: The document must first be notarized by the appropriate UAE authority, either a public notary or the issuing institution, depending on the document type.
  • Attestation by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFAIC): After notarization, the document should be attested by MOFAIC to verify the official seal and signature.
  • Legalization by the Embassy of the Czech Republic in the UAE: Submit the document to the Czech Embassy or Consulate in the UAE  in Abu Dhabi for legalization. Embassy legalization is required before the document can be used in the Czech Republic.
  • Translation into Czech (if required): Some processes in the Czech Republic, especially immigration, employment, legal matters, and academic applications, require documents to be translated into Czech. A certified translator in the Czech Republic must perform this translation to meet local requirements.
  • Attestation by the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs: The final step is MFA attestation in the Czech Republic, which validates the UAE document and its Czech translation for official use.

About the Czech Language

Czech is a West Slavic language spoken by more than 10 million people, primarily in the Czech Republic. You can find additional speakers in Slovakia, Austria, Germany, and communities across Europe and North America. It is the official language of the Czech Republic and uses the Latin alphabet with additional diacritical marks, which significantly influence pronunciation and spelling.

Czech has several regional dialects, such as Bohemian and Moravian varieties, which differ in vocabulary, pronunciation, and some grammatical forms. Standard Czech is used in education, media, and official communication. However, spoken forms, especially the common Czech used in Prague and the surrounding regions, can differ considerably. These variations can lead to notable differences between the language used in daily life and the language found in legal or government documents.

These linguistic and structural elements often create challenges in translation, including:

  • Literal translation of official civil terminology (e.g., rodný list – birth certificate, občanský průkaz – ID card, oddací list – marriage certificate) without adapting them to UAE legal equivalents or international standards.
  • Differences between Standard Czech and Common Czech can cause errors when translating informal documents, handwritten records, or older certificates with regional variations.
  • Challenges with diacritics, as Czech relies heavily on accented characters (á, č, ě, ř, š, ž, etc.). Incorrect handling of these characters during transliteration or formatting can lead to name mismatches and the rejection of official documents.
  • Issues in transliteration, especially when converting Czech names with diacritics into Arabic or English for UAE documentation. Even small spelling differences can create discrepancies in immigration or visa processing.
  • Older documents written in obsolete formats, including those issued before the 1993 split of Czechoslovakia, may contain outdated terminology requiring careful interpretation.
  • Formatting errors, such as misaligned stamps, incorrect structures of legal phrases, or inconsistencies in long-form certificates, are common reasons for rejection by embassies or ministries.
  • Use of non-certified translators, leading to mistakes in legal phrasing, mistranslation of administrative terms, or formatting issues that do not meet UAE or Czech government requirements.

Working with a certified Czech translator ensures that all documents, whether personal, legal, academic, or corporate, are accurately translated, properly formatted, and fully compliant with both Czech and UAE consular standards.
